7th Annual Las Vegas Championship

  • by

Future Champions Golf prides itself on offering exceptional tournaments which provides a challenge to all players and provides those players with plenty of college exposure. The 7th annual Las Vegas Championship is no different in this regard but, as with previous years, this event is a qualifier for the IMG Academy Junior World Championship held in July. Since it’s inception in 2010, the Las Vegas Championship has been one of the most exciting premier events on the FCG Tour. The event itself has found a home at Primm Valley Golf Club in Primm Nevada, right past the State line.

Primm offers exceptionally pure greens with rolling undulations in the fairways and hazards pocketing the course, punishing errant shots. FCG has been lucky enough to play both the Lakes Course and the Desert Course. The lakes course reaches just over 6900 yards and, as the name suggests, is lined with water hazards on nearly every hole. The Desert Course, while not devoid of water, offers a challenge off the tee in a much different way. Instead of large water hazards lining the fairway and guarding the greens, large fairway bunkers stream alongside the fairways and protect the greens on the Desert Course.

Last year, several notable players won the 6th Annual Las Vegas Championship. Alli Kim from Murrieta won the Las Vegas Championship and ended up becoming the #1 15-18 Girl in the world according to the Callaway World Junior Rankings last year. Though Alli would not go on to win the IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championship, she would make the cut and perform admirably. In 2014, a boy by the name of Norman Xiong would take home the championship award for the 5th Annual Las Vegas Championship. The very next year, Golfweek magazine would name him Junior Player of the Year. It seems that every player who has won or even participated in this event is destined for great things as another 2014 champion was declared player of the year in her home state of Oregon. Gigi Stoll was the Girls 15-18 champion in 2014, and now plays for University of Arizona.  Remember, these are only a few of the past champions of the FCG Las Vegas Championship. We wish all of our past Champions the best of luck in the years to come.
