Ashley Prange, a remarkable athlete has left an indelible mark on the world of softball and beyond. Her unwavering commitment to raising awareness for NED (No Evidence of Disease) and her inspiring journey from Ohio State to the University of Alabama makes her the epitome of how a NEDvocate can make a difference in this world.
The NEDvocate
Ashley’s dedication to our cause began when she became involved with Friends of Jaclyn. Ashley witnessed firsthand the power of love, resilience, and community at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham. These children battling the beast ignited a fire within Ashley, motivating her to use her platform as an athlete to make a difference. She wanted every child to be able to attend a NED game, color cleats they created and have players wear them at the NED game with NED shirts in their honor.
The NED Game and Beyond
In collaboration with the UAB women’s softball team, Ashley hosted the inaugural NED game—an event that transcended the boundaries of sports. The players were all given the opportunity to wear a colored NED shirt that represented the cancer they were passionate about playing for and wear the cleats colored by children form the UAB hospital.
The NED game wasn’t just about strikeouts and home runs; it was about raising awareness for all rare and often misunderstood cancer types and giving the children the opportunity to forget about the beast.
Ohio State to Alabama
Ahsley is a force on and off the field and where ever she travels. Before donning the crimson jersey of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Ashley Prange made her mark at Ohio State. Starting 103 games, she showcased her talent, hitting .303 with 17 home runs and 67 RBIs. Her 39 RBIs as a freshman set a new standard, making her the third-highest rookie contributor in Ohio State softball history. But Ashley’s impact extended beyond the diamond.
Faith, Love, and Inspiration
Ashley’s faith has been a guiding light throughout her journey. Whether stepping up to the plate or mentoring young athletes, she exemplifies grace, humility, and compassion. Her love for others extends beyond the game, touching lives both on and off the field. Ashley’s actions remind us that sports are more than wins and losses—they’re opportunities to uplift and inspire.
