Chris Smeal Shares the Story Behind Building Future Champions Golf Into a Global Movement

  • by

Junior golf is full of talented young players, but talent alone doesn’t always create opportunity. Access, exposure, and a clear pathway to the next level can make all the difference.

In Episode 121 of Tools, Talent & Techniques, Future Champions Golf (FCG) Founder Chris Smeal sits down with host Dustin Sutton to discuss the journey behind building one of the world’s most active junior golf organizations and the vision that continues to shape its future.

What started with a passion for sports has grown into a global platform creating opportunities for junior golfers around the world. Today, Future Champions Golf hosts approximately 150 events annually across more than 40 countries, connecting players with competitive experiences, international exposure, and pathways to continue their golf journeys.

From Baseball to Building a Global Junior Golf Organization

Chris’s journey into golf wasn’t exactly traditional. Growing up with a background in baseball, his interest shifted toward golf during high school. That decision ultimately led him to build an organization focused on expanding opportunities for the next generation of golfers.

Over the years, Chris recognized a need for more structure and accessibility in junior golf. Young players needed more than tournaments. They needed opportunities to compete, develop, gain exposure, and connect with the people and programs that could help them reach their goals.

That vision became Future Champions Golf.

Creating More Opportunities for Junior Golfers

A major focus of the conversation is the importance of access and opportunity in junior golf. While there is no shortage of talented young players, finding the right competitive opportunities and getting noticed by college coaches can still be challenging.

Through its growing international tournament schedule, FCG works to create meaningful competitive experiences for junior golfers at every stage of their development.

Chris also discusses Campus, the platform he co-founded to help connect young golfers with college coaches and scholarship opportunities, making the recruiting process more accessible.

The Role of Technology in the Future of Junior Golf

Technology is changing how young athletes develop, compete, and get discovered. Chris shares his perspective on how digital platforms are helping close gaps in access and creating new ways for players to connect with college programs and opportunities.

As junior golf continues to grow internationally, combining competitive opportunities with technology will play an increasingly important role in helping players navigate their paths forward.
