Personal Statement:
My name is Derek Lekkerkerk, and I am a senior at Twin Falls High School in Southern Idaho. I have a 4.00 GPA and am an honor roll student. I lead my church youth leadership team, where I organize service projects, bible studies, and youth group events. I am also a part of Sources of Strength, a suicide prevention program at my high school whose mission is to prevent suicide by increasing help-seeking behaviors and promoting connections between peers and caring adults. This past summer, I improved my JGS ranking by more than 1,000 spots after shaving nearly four strokes off my scoring differential. I competed in several tournaments across the United States, including representing Idaho at Junior America’s Cup and finishing t-6 at the Callaway World Championship, shooting -11 in three days of play. My optimistic and encouraging leadership helps promote a confident team for competing and allows everyone to perform at their highest level with a positive attitude. I love to help my teammates improve by always competing in practice to push each other to the next level and help them with the mental side of golf, which I prioritize in my game. My work ethic, mental game, and leadership skills would be an excellent fit for your program.
