Round 1 Recap – FCG International Junior Golf Championship

Round 1 of the 2018 FCG International Junior Golf Championship was played on Sunday July 1st at Sycuan Golf Resort and Carlton Oaks Golf Course.  Yuki Moriyama fires an opening round 66 to lead the 180 Boys 15-18 Division by 1 -stroke over Owen Avrit at 67.  Yuki is the defending champion of this event and will play early on Tuesday as he looks to defend his title and be the first player in FCG History to win back to back 15-18 Division titles.  In the Girls 15-18 Division Ashley Lau Jen Wen  from Malaysia opened with a brilliant 66 and leads by 4 strokes over Sophia Chabon from the Philippines who shot 1 under par 70. At even par sits Ivanna Montemayor from Mexico.  

In the Boys 13-14 division  Fifa Laopakdee  from Thailand fired a 2 under par 69 in windy and warm conditions to take the first round lead.  In 2nd place by one stroke is Yu Yu CHen from Taiwan and Ethan Posthumus from Canada who both shot opening round 70’s!  

The Girls 13-14 Division was played at Carlton Oaks Golf Course and the only round under par was Chun Wei Wu  from Taiwan with a 2 under par 69.  She leads by 4 strokes over a three way tie between Sofina Firouzi from San Diego, Meghan Royal from San Diego, and Fiona Xu  from New Zealand who all shot 73.  Good luck to all in today’s round!
