Texas WS Championship Week 1: 2.25.18 (JWQ 13-18)

Future Champions was pleased to host the 9th annual FCG Texas Championship hosted at the beautiful Plantation Golf Club. As FCG looks to expand across the country giving junior golfers the biggest stage to compete in, it also provides an opportunity for players to qualify for the IMG Junior World. The first week in Texas is played for divisions 13-18 as the younger age divisions will play next weekend. Each winner in the division will get an automatic exception to the 2018 IMG Junior World which will take place in July. As the weather in Texas was able to hold up during the 1st day, FCG decided that the tournament would be cut to a 1-day event due to the weather. FCG always wants to give all players a fair and fun weekend of golf. As ages 13-18 competed this weekend they were split up into 4 different age divisions. Boys 13-14 (white tees, 5, 876) Boys 15-18 (blue tees, 6,375) Girls 13-14 (red tees, 4,897) and Girls 15-18 (white tees, 5,876).

 

The Texas native, Andrea Gomez, was no stranger to the tough Texas conditions as she shot an round of 76 (4+). As she tied with Morgan Goldstein from Las Vegas, Nevada who also carded an round of 76 (4+) both ladies found themselves going to a play off with the IMG exception on the line! However, it was Andrea Gomez who captured her playoff win which will lead her to a 1st place win and and automatic qualifier to IMG Junior World’s!

The Boys 15-18 division was dominated by Mateo Fuenmajor from Beaverton, Oregon as his round of 68 (-4) included 6 birdies! With Mateo impressive round he will make his way to San Diego for the IMG Junior World Championship.

Our Girls 13-14 division was also dominated by another Texas native from Woodlands, Texas. Sky Sunberry shot an impressive round of 77 (+5). Sky was able to win by an impressive 4 shots victory to lead her to a win and an IMG Junior World exception.

Our final division is the Boys 13-14 which was lead by Colton Cherry who carded an solid round of 72 (E) was able to lead him to a exception to IMG Junior World’s and also a 1st place victory! The Las Vegas, Nevada native also carded 4 birdies in his round which was enough to give him a lead into the final holes.
